Reading Chair

The ae freislighe poem (pronounced approximately  as “ay fresh-ly) is an older Irish quatrain form that relies mostly on 2- and 3- syllable end rhymes in 7-syllable lines. The first and final word/phrase is identical, closing the poem neatly.

Reading Chair

This reading chair I’m sitting in
Sharpens wits from mad thinkers;
Words it feels are getting thin:
File lawsuits at poor inkers

This old light is too too dim
My eyes weary and complain
Even tried a hoodoo hymn
Modest verse in psalmic strain

Not light but age that hovers near
Wears the sight, speeding prayer
Not from books discover fear
Die unread, in reading chair
