His Face In June

© 2025 - All rights reserved

A cousin of the rondeau, this little French triolet form leans on repeated lines, though perhaps with something shifting underfoot. . .

His Face In June

This lean upward pine,
To implacable guise—
Is even this all that’s divine?

This lean, upward pine,
My standing stone, this feeble sign,
This prelest clock, my own replies,

This lean, upward, pine,
To implacable guise
